The most significant changes in our lives are obvious to those who know and love us (and even to those who do not). A change in careers, a marriage or divorce, the birth of a child, the death of a loved one – these are life events that spark outpourings of congratulations, caring, celebration, or condolences.
But there are also important but subtle changes in our lives, those that result from the decisions we make each day, those that accelerate or delay our personal growth. These slight shifts are not always noticeable to us, let alone to others, when they are happening but the changes are additive and eventually the difference in us is profound.
Stop for a moment and think about the past year of your life… or even the past six months. Are you exactly who you were, feeling exactly as you did then about yourself, your relationships, your life? It’s not likely. If you are reading this and contemplating the changes you are experiencing in your life, I assure you that the YOU you are becoming is even more amazing than the YOU you have been. You are becoming a more “evolved” version of the person you’ve always wanted to be. You are becoming the true you. And what you have probably begun to realize is that some of your friends, and perhaps even some of your family, feel more comfortable with who you WERE than with who you ARE. When this happens, as it often does, you have a very important decision to make. You can choose to put your life and your personal growth “on hold” and be the version of you with whom others feel the most comfortable, or you can move ahead to become the version of you that you were truly meant to be.
Choose YOU! Choose to be all you can and want to be. If the people in your life truly love you, they will cheer you on, understanding that where you are going they may not themselves choose to go. Your life’s path is yours to share with those who encourage your personal growth, or with those who hope you will never change. The decision may seem very difficult and sometimes very sad, but the choice is always yours.
Choose you!
Thank you Sharon.
I’ve been saying my adult life, I’m not the same person I was two years ago, let alone 10 years ago, for whatever reason at that point.
They say change is not always easy, but necessary, thank you for reminding me once again !
May I, with ease and grace.
My best to you, as always, Patricia
Thanks very much for taking the time to comment, Patricia. Agree that change is not always easy, but it is inevitable!
Sending love and a big hug,
Sharon
Dear Sharon
Thank you for this post. Indeed not always an easy choice to make, even to understand who you truly are and want to be. However the fear of loosing friends and family should not drive our choice because we will win plenty.
Be yourself no matter what they say!
Virginie, thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. You make an important point about not letting fear drive our choices, and I love your advice to “Be yourself no matter what they say!” Brava!
Sending love and a big hug,
Sharon
